Gotta Love Gumbo...

...and I don't mean soup!

Between shows, weather, and work, I have been getting a little stir-crazy! We had thought that we might attempt a short hike this weekend, but with the rain and snow the past few days, that wasn't happening! Nevertheless, the clearing skies sang their siren song, and we allowed ourselves to be lured outside.

The Cooney Dam area is always an interesting drive. The late-afternoon sun cast a warm glow over the hills surrounding the dam. (Well, "warm" in a photographic light sense, not in temperature!) We took roads at random, simply relishing the scenery, the solitude, and time together. Eventually, we ended up on Joe Hill Road, and that's where the fun began. The sun had warmed the road surface just enough to soften the gumbo. (For you easterners and city-slickers, gumbo is a special kind of Montana mud. It is mostly clay, and it is extremely sticky and slippery.) But the Lil Blue 'Ru was up to the task, and only a couple of times did we hear the auto 4wd engage. Despite some flying mud and a little sliding around, we reached the paved road without incident.

All in all, it was a pleasant afternoon. Maybe we can go hiking next time.
